Wisconsin football recruiting has recorded headline after headline this month. Head coach Luke Fickell and his staff positioned themselves as the favorite for highly-rated defensive backs, brought one of the country’s most highly-sought after quarterbacks on campus, and have some asking if this will be the highest-rated Badgers football recruiting class ever. Under its new coaching staff, UW has found recruiting success in new corners of the country, but is it coming at the expense of recruiting in the state of Wisconsin?

Waunakee Tight End Rob Booker Decommits from Wisconsin Football

Just days after a premier recruit from Wisconsin announced his commitment to Minnesota, Wisconsin football lost a member of its 2024 recruiting class. Tight end prospect Rob Booker announced via Twitter this afternoon that he has decided to “decommit from the University of Wisconsin.” Booker wrote:

“After careful consideration and reflection, I have decided it is in my best interest to decommit from the University of Wisconsin. I cannot type out the words that show how appreciative I am for the entire coaching staff for giving me an incredible opportunity to play for them as well as the fan base at Wisconsin for welcoming me with open arms and making me apart [sic] of the family. I appreciate all the time and effort that was put into me and I have nothing but respect for the staff. This was not an easy decision to make, and this is not a reflection of anything negative of the program but simply for my best interest as a student athlete. Thank you for respecting my decision and once again, thank you to the ENTIRE Badger community”

Booker announced his commitment to Wisconsin football at the end of January. The Waunakee native committed a few days after taking an unofficial visit to UW. He recently took an official visit to Madison on the weekend of June 2nd.

Booker is the fifth-ranked prospect in the 2024 class from the state of Wisconsin and is a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He has not taken any known visits to other schools or received any known scholarship offers since committing to UW. The six-foot-six-inch 215-pound prospect previously held ten scholarship offers. His offers included Big Ten schools Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan State, and Purdue. Iowa State, Kansas, Pitt, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech also offered scholarships to Booker.

Wisconsin football has one other tight end currently committed in its 2024 recruiting class: Grant Stec. The four-star recruit from Illinois committed to the Badgers two days before Booker announced his intention to play at UW.
