What a day for the Wisconsin football program.

Just hours after in-state tight end Rob Booker announced his de-commitment, Wisconsin has lost another commit in the 2024 cycle.

Three-star CB Vernon Woodward III took to Twitter to announce he has flipped his commitment to Illinois.

Woodward originally committed to Wisconsin on June 4th. Following the commitment, the three-star prospect visited UCF and Illinois for two other official visits. The Fighting Illini came out on top, and Wisconsin’s class has now fallen to 14 commits.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Woodward is the No. 911 player in the nation, the No. 75 cornerback, and the No. 128 player in Florida. The three-star prospect held a long list of offers, gaining some traction before his original commitment to Wisconsin.

Some signs indicated that Woodward was looking at other options before his announcement. The Florida native took down his commitment post and erased any mention of the Badgers in his bio on his Twitter profile.

Woodward was one of four secondary commits in Wisconin’s class, alongside Raphael Dunn, Kahmir Prescott, and Jay Harper.

UW is still after several cornerback targets, including Omillio Agard and Lloyd Irvin. Multiple recruiting services have submitted predictions for Wisconsin to land both prospects, so the Badgers should be able to fill the hole left by Woodward.

With Woodward and Booker de-committing, the Wisconsin football program has taken a tumble down the recruiting charts. Earlier in the day, UW held the No. 14 recruiting class in the nation. Now, the Badgers sit at No. 19 on the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
