Wisconsin basketball recruiting is a two-track mind. The transfer portal carousel is spinning at full speed. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard remains focused on recruiting his 2025 high school class. It will be a busy weekend around the team’s facilities as a couple of Badgers transfer portal targets visit Madison. At the same time, a top 2025 target will be making a third trip to UW.

EJ Walker is a key piece of Gard’s plans for the frontcourt in the 2025 recruiting class. The forward from Kentucky makes plays on offense at the rim and beyond the three-point arc. He is a willing defender with a penchant for disrupting shots at the rim, if not blocking them outright. According to the 247Sports Composite, Walker is the 142nd-ranked prospect in his class. With his 6-foot-8-inch, 230-pound Frame, Walker presents mismatches on offense and defense.

With his versatile skillset, Walker has dozens of scholarship offers to choose from. South Carolina and Wisconsin, however, are the first two schools to host him on official visits. Ahead of his trip to Madison this weekend, Walker shared with BadgerNotes that he “really just wants to find a place that feels like home.” The Lloyd Memorial High School product emphasized that he is seeking out the school “where [he] can have the best opportunity to succeed.”

Although it is only his second official visit, this weekend marks Walker’s third total visit with Wisconsin basketball. The second-ranked player from Kentucky in his high school class unofficially visited the Badgers last June and November for Wisconsin’s game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Regular contact between Gard’s staff and Walker has been a theme of this recruitment. Walker previously told BadgerNotes that his primary recruiter, “Coach [Shareef] Chambliss checks in on me a lot.”

In March, Walker narrowed his list of potential schools to 12. Illinois, Cal, Xavier, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisville, Ohio State, Iowa, Dayton, Purdue, and Minnesota, along with Wisconsin basketball, made the cut. West Virginia, Louisville, and Ohio State have since undergone changes at head coach. In the case of the Buckeyes, however, since promoted head coach Jake Diebler was Walker’s primary recruiter at Ohio State. Notably, Purdue head coach Matt Painter has already beaten out Gard for a 2025 frontcourt recruit.
