Can Wisconsin Football Land its Highest Rated Recruiting Class Ever?

Wisconsin Badgers head football coach Luke Fickell

It’s been a hectic week in recruiting for the Wisconsin football program.

Luke Fickell and company started official visit season with a bang, landing a total of four commitments last week. Vernon Woodward, Hank Weber, Kevin Heywood, and Ryan Cory are some of the newest Badgers, but UW didn’t stop there.

The second official visit weekend saw two more commits coming through (so far), with three-star ATH Raphael Dunn and three-star OL Colin Cubberly committing to UW. With several more commitments expected to come this week, Wisconsin is far from done on its track to build a standout recruiting class in the first year under the new regime.

After a whirlwind of commitments, Wisconsin has a chance to land the highest rated recruiting class in program history. The best all-time recruiting class in the internet era came in 2021 when UW landed the No. 16 class in the nation

Here’s a look at where the Wisconsin football program stands following a busy few weeks.

Where does Wisconsin football stand in the recruiting leaderboards?

As it stands, Wisconsin has 14 commitments in the 2024 cycle.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings, the Badgers have climbed to the No. 15 recruiting class in the nation and the No. 5 class in the Big Ten.

The usual suspects are above Wisconsin, with Michigan (No. 2 nationally), Ohio State (No. 4), and Penn State (No. 5) landing at the top of the pack. Minnesota holds the No. 13 recruiting class in the country and the No. 4 spot in the Big Ten. However, it’s worth noting that the Gophers’ 19 commits are all three-star prospects or less.

Wisconsin has added two four-star prospects and 11 three-star prospects. The Badgers also seemingly lead the pack for multiple top targets.  Four-star RB Darrion Dupree, four-star EDGE Anelu Lafaele, and four-star CB Omilio Agard are just a few of those prospects on UW’s top priority list. If Wisconsin can secure those prospects, a top-20 recruiting class is well within reach when it’s all said and done.

There are multiple commitments expected to come in the next week. With those commits, Wisconsin will shoot even higher up the charts. Schools like Alabama and USC will bring in some highly touted prospects down the line, so UW will come back down eventually.

With that said, when signing day comes around, I’d place my bets on the Wisconsin football program landing a top-20 class. If UW can land multiple of their remaining top targets, cracking the top-15 and landing the highest-rated recruiting class in program history is very likely.

Final Thoughts

The new regime has already made a significant impact on the recruiting trail.

The Wisconsin football program is expected to take between 22-24 prospects in the cycle. With 14 current commitments, there’s still plenty to come.

Even if the new regime doesn’t land the top class in program history, the results will still be remarkable. It’s a heck of a time to be a Badger, folks.
