The Wisconsin Football DAWG of the Week series is an opportunity to spotlight players that had a massive impact on the game. Earning this prestigious honor is more than just statistical output.  Its about which Badgers player let that inner DAWG out.

Certainly stats will factor into this weekly award — but this particular accolade is more than who filled up the stat sheet. More simply — what player would not be denied. When a players best was required — who rose to the occasion?

Wisconsin Football Mascot Bucky Badger

No matter the score, Bucky is always ready to perform.  The 83-year old led the charge as the Wisconsin football team had its worst loss in 20 years.  It wasn’t just that the Badgers lost that hurt fans to the core – it was the way they lost.  Wisconsin was beat in every single phase on Saturday, but one – OUR MASCOT.

When the game kicked off I couldn’t have been more confident. I proclaimed last week that they would get a 40-burger for the first time all year and boat-race the Hoosiers.  Suffice it to say, they did not and they got taken to the children’s table at this party.

Getting chirped by Ohio State fans is one thing, but when a drunk Indiana fan with Hoosier Gameday Lager breath declares that “if Indiana played Wisconsin 12 times Tom Allen would get us to the playoff” – I simply had no retort.

There was only one thing that would lift my spirit though. Buckingham Ulysses Badger never disappoints and ALWAYS shows up regardless of the opponent, location or kickoff time.

When the team was down, Bucky did not lose faith and continued to get the crowd involved.  Finishing the day with a scorching 3/3 on “Lets Go Red” chants and a perfectly executed head stand – Bucky is the Wisconsin Football DAWG of the Week.

The Badgers are set to host Northwestern 11/11 at the Camp. Please.. just win the game.
