Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football coaching staff might have a recruiting fight on their hands to fend off a familiar program that is beginning to circle back to a 2024 Badgers commit.

During flip season, anything is on the table — which is why nobody should be surprised that Florida State, who was firmly in the mix for Xavier Lucas during the offseason, has resurfaced as a potential landing spot.

The Seminoles were prioritizing a five-star defensive back over Lucas at the time, so he shifted his focus to taking official visits to Wisconsin and Iowa, which eventually led to his committing to the Badgers 2024 class.

But recent reporting suggests that Lucas is keeping his options open.

Wisconsin Football Must Fend Off Teams Trying to Flip Xavier Lucas

Xavier Lucas is a high three-star defensive back recruit for the Wisconsin football program and has a ton of the physical tools that this new staff covets on the recruiting trail.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback has the size, length, and versatility to line up at a handful of different positions on defense. That’s why keeping him on board for the Badgers is so important.

As it stands, Lucas has taken two visits to Miami since he committed to UW — and has another recruiting visit lined up with Florida State — and there’s a mutual interest that can’t be ignored.

It’s not time to worry just yet — but Wisconsin football has some work to do if they’re going to keep the Florida native on board. At best, he stays, and all is well — otherwise, UW will have to explore late bloomers or flip someone themselves.

Lucas hasn’t verbalized that his commitment to Wisconsin is on the rocks and is likely just doing his due diligence, but this is a situation worth monitoring.
