Wisconsin Football DAWG of the Week From 24-13 Win Over Rutgers
The Wisconsin Football Dawg of the Week series is an opportunity to spotlight a player that had a massive impact on the game. Earning this prestigious honor is more than just statistical output. It’s all about which Badgers player let that inner dawg out.
Certainly stats will factor into this weekly award — but this particular accolade is more than who filled up the stat sheet. More simply — what player would not be denied. When a players best was required — who rose to the occasion?
Wisconsin Football Defensive Back Ricardo Hallman
RICOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This week there was only one choice – Ricardo Hallman! The redshirt-sophomore who is often referred to by teammates and coaches as “Rico”, was the difference maker for the Badgers on Saturday afternoon.
With Rutgers on the Wisconsin 5-yardline and trailing 10-0, QB Gavin Wimsatt was looking for points before the first half ended. Not so fast my friend! Wimsatt looked right and threw a pass outside the numbers and Rico snatched that ball out of the air and took it 95-yards to the house!

Hallman obviously has the ability to be a high-level contributor for the Wisconsin football defense. As the field corner who continues to make plays I believe he is our CB1 right now. Game after game Hallman continues to flash and destroy the opponents game plan. In the postgame press conference, Wisconsin football Head Coach Luke Fickell cited that play as likely the difference in the game. Rutgers may be in the shadows of New York City but the Fightin’ Schianos had a better chance of a tackling Lady Liberty than they did catching Rico.
UW will take on former Wisconsin QB Deacon Hill and Iowa on 10/14 at Camp Randall Stadium in what some (mostly just me) call the defacto Big Ten West Championship game. Let’s hope the boys come out Saturday and ensure the Heartland trophy stays where it belongs!
