Wisconsin Badgers fans will surely notice the significant changes coming to the Kohl Center. In a press release, UW announced Tuesday that construction is underway for a “new and improved game day experience.”

How Is Space Being Created for New Premium Seats at the Kohl Center?

The Wisconsin Badgers are removing some existing sideline seating options at Wisconsin basketball games to create premium seating options.

Wisconsin men’s hockey will have a new playing surface this season. In November, UW announced plans to reduce the Kohl Center ice sheet to NHL regulation size. The rink was 12 feet wider before the renovation and among the largest playing surfaces in NCAA Division 1 men’s ice hockey. In February, the Wisconsin State Building Commission approved the change to the ice sheet.

The reduction in ice dimensions and the relocation of current basketball season ticket holders will create space for new premium seating options. Narrowing the ice will create six feet of new, permanent space on each side of the ice sheet on the event level.

The changes will introduce various amenities to “provide a special and exciting in-venue experience for Badgers fans.” The new premium seating options include an all-inclusive premium food and non-alcoholic beverage service, a full-service cash bar, enhanced parking priority, and access to the Krantz Club. The Krantz Club – “a new premium club space on the event level” – will be accessible beginning in January 2025.

“The Kohl Center is one of the top venues in college athletics and we are adding to its legacy with the recent renovations in the building, including new premium seating options that will provide high-level services and amenities,” UW Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh said in a statement. “These upgrades will help to create an exciting, new fan experience and drive additional revenue that will support Badger student-athletes across our 23 sport programs.”

The Wisconsin Badgers also announced plans to distribute a survey to fans. “To help shape the future of the Kohl Center fan experience,” UW will release a survey later this summer.
