We are getting ever closer to the start of the Wisconsin football season. The success the Badgers have had on the recruiting trail this summer has only made the need to scratch that football itch even greater.

The Big Ten Media Days are one of the tell-tale signs that we’ve almost made it to the football season. It is a time for the media to meet with players and coaches from around the Big Ten Conference to preview the upcoming season. This year the Big Ten Media Days will take place in Indianapolis from July 23-25. The Badgers will be there the first day, on July 23.

Each team will have their head coach and three players representing the program. These players are usually ones who are viewed as leaders on the team and will represent the program in a positive light.

This year, the Wisconsin football team has three seniors representing the team. Linebacker Jake Chaney, safety Hunter Wohler, and offensive lineman Jack Nelson will be in Indy for the Badgers.

Nelson is the most experienced member of the group. The 5th-year senior was a part of the Badgers’ 2020 recruiting class. In his career, Nelson has played in 37 games and chose to come back for one more season with Wisconsin to anchor the offensive line.

Last year, Jake Chaney was a part of the Badgers’ three-headed linebacking corps that included Maema Njongmeta and Jordan Turner. Now, he’s a leader of a rebuilt positional unit with transfers Jaheim Thomas (Arkansas), Tackett Curtis (USC), and Sebastian Cheeks (North Carolina).

He is entering his fourth year with the Badgers and has played in 34 career games. He has tallied 119 total tackles, four sacks, and an interception in his career. Last season, Chaney was second on the team in solo (50) and total tackles (80).

Finally, Hunter Wohler is unarguably the leader of the defense. He was the vocal leader of the Wisconsin football team last year when things started to go sideways. He led the team with 120 tackles, 40 more tackles than Chaney.

Wohler could have easily entered the 2024 NFL Draft and been a mid-round pick but chose instead to come back to Wisconsin for one more year.
