Wisconsin Football News: Several Badgers Enter Portal, Transfer Rumblings, More
It’s been a busy couple of days for the Wisconsin football program, ladies and gents, but feat not because BadgerNotes can help get you back up to speed with a roundup of some important news and notes you may have missed.
Wisconsin Badgers Lose Several CBs to Transfer Portal
Wisconsin football wrapped up spring practice yesterday, and several Badgers cornerbacks entered the transfer portal shortly after that.
After Alexander Smith, Ricardo Hallman, and Jason Maitre established themselves as the top three, several defensive backs recruited under Paul Chryst either fell down the depth chart or didn’t earn enough meaningful reps to know where they stood heading into the fall.
Because of that, A’Khoury Lyde, a redshirt freshman, Avyonne Jones (who I thought had some promise), and Al Ashford entered the portal looking for a more suitable opportunity.
None of this comes as a surprise. True freshmen Jonas Duclona and Jace Arnold each took reps with the second-team defense this spring, and it’s also no secret that the Wisconsin coaching staff is looking to add some depth + experience to the secondary.
It’s also possible that Luke Fickell (who knows a thing or two about cornerback play) didn’t think the talent was there to warrant moving forward and had an honest conversation with them, knowing UW had to get under the scholarship limit.

Wisconsin Football Hosts Transfer Cornerback on Visit
Speaking of Wisconsin football shopping for cornerback depth in the transfer portal, the Badgers hosted Rhode Island transfer Antonio Carter, who already holds an offer, on a visit this week.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back has two years of eligibility remaining and could immediately compete for a spot in the two-deep with a chance to step into a featured role in 2024.
Carter recorded 60 total tackles, 11 pass deflections, 4.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, and an interception for the Rams last season.
I am officially in the transfer portal as a Grad Transfer with 2 years of eligibility left!

Other Wisconsin Football News
Now that the Wisconsin football team is heading back into offseason mode, knowing what holes they need to fill on the roster, I felt it might be helpful to pass along that the Badgers coaching staff is doing their homework on running backs, corners, wide receiver, and even a linebacker.
Although nothing is imminent, is a list of names I’ve either heard or been able to confirm the Badgers are showing interest in:
- AJ Hennings, WR Michigan
- Alton McCaskill, RB Houston
- Caine Savage, CB Houston
- Jadon Canady, DB Tulane
- Billy Lucas, RB Duquesne
- Jahquez Robinson, CB Alabama
- Jaheim Thomas, LB Cincinnati
- Andre Stewart, CB Kentucky
- Jordon Vaughn, RB Wyoming
