It’s been a busy couple of days for the Wisconsin football program, ladies and gents, but fear not because BadgerNotes can help get you back up to speed with a roundup of some important news you may have missed.

Wisconsin Badgers Offer a Pair of Transfer Portal DBs

At this point, the Wisconsin football coaching staff feels good about their top three cornerbacks, Alexander Smith, Ricardo Hallman, and Jason Maitre. However, the depth behind them might not be up to snuff.

After missing on Boston College CB Josh DeBerry, the Badgers extended offers to two intriguing options capable of seeing the field in 2023.

The first offer was to Rhode Island transfer defensive back Antonio Carter, who has two years remaining eligibility. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound CB recorded 60 total tackles, 11 pass deflections, 4.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, and an interception for the Rams.

Kentucky, West Virginia, and Baylor are also in the mix.

The second offer went out to Ole Miss corner Markevious Brown who also has two years remaining eligibility. Brown was a former four-star recruit in the 2021 class out of IMG Academy in Florida.

He’s appeared in 13 games throughout his career, 12 of which came last season, registering 19 tackles, one for a loss, and two passes defended.

It’s become clear that the Wisconsin football staff wants to find a player experienced enough to see the field in 2023 and step into a more prominent role next season.

Wisconsin Football Has Three Players Listed in The Athletic’s Top 100 NFL Draft Projections

Recently, Dane Brugler, an NFL draft analyst for The Athletic, released his updated Top 100 Prospects guide.

Hist list included three former Wisconsin football standouts: Joe Tippmann, Keeanu Benton, and Nick Herbig.

Brugler has Tippmann rated as his No. 1 center in the draft class and the No. 43 player overall, referring to him as a weight room warrior and a “fluid and rangy big man with foot speed to excel on short and long pulls.”

The second Badgers prospect on his list was Benton, rated as the No. 6 defensive tackle and the No. 56 player overall. “Carries his 315-pound frame very well with short-area quickness to close…outstanding big man balance and transitions well off blocks.”

Finally, Brugler had Herbig listed as the No. 5 linebacker in the class and the No. 79 overall player, describing him as a “natural bender with the take-off speed to put blockers on their heels…he already understands the work ethic and training required for the next level.”

Other Wisconsin Football News

Earlier this week, 2024 three-star safety Kahmir Prescott out of Philadelphia, Pennslyvania, released a top-five list of Michigan State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Penn State, and the Wisconsin football program.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Prescott, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder, is the No. 59 safety in the country and the No. 19 player in Pennslyvania.

It’s also worth noting that he currently has a crystal ball prediction from Evan Flood to pick the Badgers, although Penn State is also firmly in the mix. Prescott was in Madison on an unofficial visit earlier this month.
