Wisconsin Football Making Last Ditch Effort With In-State Recruit

The Badgers staff is throwing a hail Mary.

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football coaching staff are presumably on the verge of losing a key in-state recruiting battle

The recruiting battle in question is for four-star offensive tackle Owen Strebig from Catholic Memorial High School. He recently announced a commitment date of February 8th, when Strebig will choose between a group of finalists that includes the Wisconsin Badgers, Notre Dame, USC Miami, and Florida State.

A trio of recruiting insiders from 247Sports have all placed crystal ball predictions with a confidence level of “6” for the 6-foot-8, 300-pound linemen to land with Notre Dame coming off an unofficial visit.

But the Wisconsin football coaching staff isn’t throwing in the towel on one of their top recruiting targets just yet.

Wisconsin Football Coaches Make Trip to Catholic Memorial

Badgerblitz.com reporter Jon McNamara posted on X that the Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell and assistant AJ Blazek were at Catholic Memorial High School to see Owen Strebig.

According to the composite rankings, Strebig is the No. 124 recruit in the country, the No. 12 OT, and the No. 1 player in Wisconsin.

It’s no secret that Strebig is a long-time Notre Dame lean, but the Wisconsin Badgers staff is pulling out all the stops in an effort to keep the state’s top recruit home.

It’s unlikely they’ll be able to change his mind at this point, but a recent junior day visit to Madison where Strebig was able to connect with coach Blazek probably left the staff feeling like they had more time.

The tough part for Wisconsin football is that Joe Rudolph is the offensive line coach at Notre Dame, and he has a multiple-year head start on building a relationship with Strebig, on top of selling a terrific program.

We’ll see if the Wisconsin Badgers coaches can somehow move the needle in the 11th hour, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
