Wisconsin Football on the Verge of Losing a Key In-State Recruiting Battle

The Badgers might have to pivot targets along the offensive line.

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers football program recently hosted four-star in-state offensive tackle Owen Strebig on a junior day recruiting visit to continue building their relationship. They also wanted to introduce Strebig to their new position coach, AJ Blazek.

Not long ago, Strebig named the Badgers one of the top 11 schools remaining in his recruiting process, alongside Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Florida State, USC, Missouri, Florida, Notre Dame, Miami, and UCF.

But, by all accounts, the visit may not have been enough of a needle mover to remain in the race for the Catholic Memorial standout services following an unofficial visit to the presumed leader in the clubhouse.

Wisconsin Football In-State Recruit Trending to Notre Dame

Owen Strebig has looked like a Notre Dame lean for quite some time now, but his recent visit to South Bend may have finally pushed this recruitment toward the finish line in a way that doesn’t favor Wisconsin football.

Recruiting insiders Tom Loy, Kevin Sinclair, and Zach Blostein from 247Sports have all placed crystal ball predictions with a confidence level of “6” for Strebig to land with the Fighting Irish. It’s worth noting that all three insiders have 100% hit rates with their 2025 recruiting predictions.

According to the industry composite rankings, Strebig is the No. 124 player in the nation, the No. 12 OT, and the No. 1 player in Wisconsin.

Although Strebig is considered by most to be the crown jewel of the 2025 in-state recruiting class, the Wisconsin football program does hold a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Michael Roeske and is in a good spot with several other priority targets.

We’ll see if the Wisconsin Badgers make another push to get Strebig on campus before announcing his commitment, but it’s beginning to look like the 6-foot-8, 300-pound tackle will be leaving the state.

Brace yourselves for the impending oops.
