Former Wisconsin football head coach Paul Chryst has decided to stay with Texas for the upcoming season, removing himself from consideration for the opportunity to become the offensive coordinator at Iowa, as reported by FootballScoop’s John Brice.

Chryst, considered one of the top candidates for the vacant position at Iowa left by former OC Brian Ferentz, will continue in his role as offensive analyst and special assistant to the head coach at Texas.

This past season, Texas went 12-2 and made a College Football Playoff appearance under head coach Steve Sarkisian before losing to the Washington Huskies in the national semi-final.

Paul Chryst to Remain With the Texas Longhorns in 2024

Paul Chryst joined the Texas staff in the offseason after parting ways with the Wisconsin Badgers in 2022.

His coaching journey includes stints in the CFL, Oregon State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the San Diego Chargers as tight ends coach, Pittsburgh as head coach, and various roles with the Wisconsin football team, such as tight ends coach, offensive coordinator, and head coach from 2015 to 2022.

During Chryst’s tenure as head coach, Wisconsin football achieved a 67-26 record and either won or finished second in the Big Ten West during his full seasons with the Badgers. He even won B1G Coach of the Year twice and should continue to be an attractive candidate when he chooses to return to the big seat.

To our knowledge, Paul Chryst, a Madison native, interviewed with Northwestern and Oregon State this offseason for head coaching jobs. Perhaps the right opportunity will become available for him next year.
