The Wisconsin football coaching staff’s focus on revamping its wide receiver room in the transfer portal intensified after losing key Badgers contributors Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell.

Tyrell Henry, a former Michigan State wideout, quickly emerged on the Badgers’ radar. Luke Fickell and his staff offered him a scholarship shortly after the transfer portal opened and got him on campus for an official visit not long after that, where they closed the deal in short order.

Henry announced on social media that he has officially committed to the Wisconsin Badgers over reported offers from Indiana, Western Kentucky, Pitts, Marshall, Boston College, Miami (OH), and Minnesota.

The 6-foot, 170-pound wideout from Michigan joins the Wisconsin football team with two years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin football shifted to the “air raid” offense under Phil Longo but struggled mightily in the passing attack. Despite high hopes for the wide receiver corps, there was a pressing need for complementary playmakers.

Tyrell Henry, a 2022 three-star recruit and high school teammate of Badgers cornerback Amare Snowden, made an impact at Michigan State this past season, catching 24 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Notably, Henry was also the primary returner for kicks and punts — which will presumably help the Wisconsin football team fill the special team’s hole left behind when Chimere Dike entered the portal.

While the Wisconsin Badgers have possession receivers and slot options, they needed a speed threat capable of stretching defenses. Henry’s reputation as a route runner, ability to create separation, and elusiveness after the catch might just help fill that void.

As Wisconsin football continues adapting its offensive personnel for a more spread-focused approach, the Badgers coaches now have a better idea of what the program is missing after a full season under their belts.
