The Wisconsin football program is looking all over the map for help at defensive line. Currently, the Badgers have extended offers to six total linemen in the transfer portal.

One of the most recent offers was dished out to Austin Peay defensive lineman Travis Bates, who announced the offer on social media.

Bates is coming off his second season with the Austin Peay Governors. The redshirt freshman did not see any action in the 2022 season, but he found a role in 2023. In ten games, Bates recorded 32 tackles, three sacks, and two pass deflections while playing 607 snaps.

Bates has reported offers from North Texas, Boston College, Texas State, Old Dominion, and Kansas State.

Coming out of high school, the Texas native was a two-star recruit who garnered offers from Austin Peay, Colorado State, and Penn. He had initially committed to Colorado State before flipping to Austin Peay.

Bates is the most recent offer at defensive line for Wisconsin. Other DL transfer offers include Joey Slackman, Anthony Johnson, Anquin Barnes Jr, Travis Bates, Kevin Gilliam Jr, and Ayobami Tifase.

UW has a thin room with limited returning production and some unproven depth, making defensive line the biggest position of need. The Badgers will need to add multiple bodies to fill out a room in desperate need of help.

The Wisconsin football program currently holds transfer commitments from QB Tyler Van Dyke, TE Jackson McGohan, OLB John Pius, LB Leon Lowery Jr, and LS Cayson Pfeiffer. With five commitments, UW is currently No. 10 in the 247Sports transfer rankings.
