The Wisconsin football program missed out on a transfer portal target to a Big Ten program.

Kent State transfer CJ West took to social media to announce his commitment to Indiana.

West chose the Hoosiers over offers from Wisconsin, Rutgers, LSU, Arkansas, Miami, Colorado, and several others. He will play his final season of eligibility in Bloomington.

West was the first transfer Wisconsin offered after the spring portal opened. UW also brought him in for a visit shortly after extending the offer.

Last season at Kent State, West recorded 40 tackles, 14 pressures, 7.0 TFLs, two sacks, and a forced fumble. The former Golden Eagle was rated as a three-star transfer, ranked as the No. 297 player available in the portal, and the No. 31 DL.

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell discussed staying active in the portal after spring practices wrapped up, and despite missing out on West, the Badgers still have another defensive line target on their list in Jay’Viar Suggs, who included UW in his top six on Tuesday.

As it stands, the Wisconsin football program’s defensive line room consists of returning players James Thompson Jr, Curt Neal, Ben Barten, Cade McDonald, and Jamel Howard, plus some newcomers in Albany transfer Elijah Hills and true freshman Ernest Willor Jr in the mix.

After losing a handful of defensive linemen to the transfer portal after the 2023 season concluded, adding some extra bodies in the trenches will remain a priority.

The Wisconsin football program has landed two transfers in the spring window, offensive linemen Leyton Nelson and Joey Okla.
