The Wisconsin Badgers football program came up short for a defensive back target in the transfer portal.

On Saturday, former New Mexico State cornerback Andre Seldon announced his commitment to TCU.

Seldon started his career at Michigan in 2020 before transferring to New Mexico State in 2022. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound CB recorded 98 tackles, 11 pass breakups, 2 INTs (one pick-six), and a forced fumble in two seasons with the Aggies.

Wisconsin hosted Seldon on an official visit from January 3-5 shortly after he entered the transfer portal. The UW staff saw an opportunity to bring in an experienced cornerback, specifically at the nickel position, with Jason Maitre declaring for the NFL Draft.

The Wisconsin Badgers will be returning some key CB contributors next season, with Ricardo Hallman, Nyzier Fourqurean, and Austin Brown coming back.

Behind that group, UW still has a lot of depth to work with. Michael Mack II (who did not play last season due to NCAA transfer rules), Max Lofy Jace Arnold, Amare Snowden, Justin Taylor, and AJ Tisdell will all be back in Madison next season, while incoming freshmen Omillio Agard, Jay Harper, and Xavier Lucas will round out the Badgers depth chart.

Wisconsin does not have any other outstanding CB offers at this time, as portal targets KJ Wallace, Syeed Gibbs, TJ Crandall, and BJ Mayes have all found new homes for the 2024 season.

It will be interesting to see if the Wisconsin Badgers look for any secondary help through the portal going forward.
