Wisconsin football got off to a slow start again on Saturday. A data point that has become a trend for the Badgers. As UW headed to the locker room at halftime, the score was tied 7-7. The Georgia Southern Eagles outgained Wisconsin by 137 yards in the first half. The one bright spot, however, was the three first-half turnovers forced by defensive coordinator Mike Tressel’s unit.

The turnovers allowed the Badgers to hang around just long enough before pulling away. After falling behind 14-7 early in the third quarter, Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai led the offense to score 28 unanswered points.

The 35-14 final score certainly did not tell the full story of this game. Fortunately, social media provided a real-time “vibes check” from Wisconsin football fans during this final non-conference matchup.

Wisconsin Football Fans Unhappy with Braelon Allen’s Carries

Surprisingly, Badgers star running back Braelon Allen did not get the start at tailback against GSU. The surprises kept coming, too. Allen did not record a carry until nearly midway through the second quarter and only had four total in the first half. His only touch in the first quarter was a four-yard reception.

Wisconsin Football’s Defense Looks Questionable

Despite forcing six turnovers, the Badger defense played far from a perfect game. Allowing 455 total yards on the day, Wisconsin football bent quite a bit before forcing Eagles quarterback Davis Brin to break.

Wisconsin Football’s Offense Struggles Early Against Georgia Southern

The lack of Allen was not the only complaint about the Wisconsin football offense. The Badgers, against a less-than-elite Eagles defense, went three and out on five of their first eight drives.
