In 2022, a Badgers wide receiver was in the top three of every major receiving category for Wisconsin football. Only two weeks into the 2023 season, however, the same receiver is entering the transfer portal.

Keontez Lewis announced on Twitter that he will enter the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore is in his second season in Madison after spending his redshirt season at UCLA. The decision came after Lewis, who was a focal point of UW’s passing game last season, did not play in Wisconsin football’s loss to Washington State.

Some Wisconsin football fans were quite disappointed by the news.

A current Wisconsin football wide receiver chimed in to wish Lewis well. Along with him, was another former Badgers wideout who is in the transfer portal for the second time himself.

Several Wisconsin football fans hope Lewis succeeds at his next destination.

Finally, an important reminder for anyone who is not supportive of athletes’ freedom of movement:

With Wisconsin football losing one of its top six wide receivers, it’s important to remember the Badgers still have plenty of depth. Chimere Dike, Bryson Green, Will Pauling, C.J. Williams, and Skyler Bell will lead the charge. But there is also plenty of depth, such as Vinny Anthony and Quincy Burroughs, that can fill the void left behind by Lewis’s departure.
