On Wednesday, the Wisconsin football program had three Badgers players receive All-Big Ten honors.

This news comes a day after two Badgers made the Defense/Special Teams All-Big Ten team for their efforts in the 2023 season. I’ll spare my thoughts on where those players ended up.

It was a tumultuous year for the Wisconsin offense, with injuries to several key players and the air raid scheme taking longer than expected to be integrated. Still, three players were able to receive some recognition for some strong play.

In the media voting, UW’s star running back Braelon Allen received second-team honors, the only Badger to make that group. The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin native announced that he will declare for the NFL Draft yesterday afternoon, finishing his career with nearly 3,500 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns. In 2023, Allen notched 181 carries for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Two Badgers were represented on the All-Big Ten third team, with wide receiver Will Pauling and center Tanor Bortolini getting the nod. Pauling was voted to the third team in the coaches poll, while Bortolini earned his spot through the media poll.

Will Pauling was one of the biggest stock risers for Wisconsin this season, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. The former Cincinnati transfer made his mark, and having him back next year will be crucial for this offense.

Say what you will about Tanor Bortolini’s snaps, but the redshirt junior stepped up and played well during Jake Renfro’s absence. He was thrust into a position he wasn’t entirely comfortable with, but Bortolini made the most of his opportunities this year.

It wasn’t a fairytale season for the Wisconsin football program, but it’s nice to see some of the Badgers standouts get the recognition they deserve.
