Madison, Wis. – Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football program added their final pass-rusher in the 2024 recruiting class on Tuesday afternoon.

After taking an official visit on June 2 and weighing his options, four-star EDGE rusher Anelu Lafaele out of Honolulu, Hawaii, announced his commitment to the Badgers over the likes of Arizona State, Washington, Hawaii, Cal, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and several others.

According to 247Sports, Lafaele is the No. 21 EDGE rusher in the country and the No. 2 player in Hawaii. It’s also worth noting that outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell acted as the lead in his recruitment.

“What stands out to me is the culture and the great line of success for players at my position and not only that but for all the Hawaii boys that made it up there,” Lafaele said.

Lafaele is now the Badgers fourth high school recruit to commit to the Wisconsin football program from Hawaii, joining Nick Herbig, Micah Kapoi, and James Kamoku.

Scouting Report on 2024 Wisconsin Football Commit Anelu Lafaele

In Anelu Lafaele, Wisconsin football is getting a dynamic EDGE rushing prospect with a ton of developmental upside.

Standing 6-foot-3, 222 pounds, Lafaele shows great twitchiness, athleticism, bend, and strength while bull-rushing on tape.

At times, his speed jumps off the page, and it looks like he was shot out of a cannon while getting after the quarterback. The Hawaii native has an impressive first step, plays with leverage, and his motor is off the charts.

Even though Wisconsin football is switching up defensive schemes, the idea of “meshing the elite” means the Badgers new coaching staff can’t ignore the pipeline of successful OLBs turned into NFL prospects. It’s a huge selling point.

I’ll be interested to see how UW deploys Lafaele once he gets on campus, but his pass-rushing ability cannot be understated — he’s a dude — excellent pickup.

The combination of Lafaele and Thomas Heiberger is all about raw tools and upside — and I can’t wait to see how they develop under Luke Fickell and his new regime.
