Wisconsin Football Program Suspends Defensive Starter Indefinitely

Wisconsin Badgers Football — Barry Alvarez Field
The name of former Wisconsin football coach and athletic director Barry Alvarez has been stitched into the new turf field at Camp Randall Stadium. The field has been named in his honor.

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football program had to suspend starting inside linebacker Jordan Turner, the Badgers second-leading tackler last season, due to a violation of the athletic department’s discipline policy.

The 6-foot-1, 236-pound linebacker registered 65 tackles, 23 pressures, five tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception — while also earning defensive MVP honors at the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

“Earlier this week, I was cited with an OWI first offense along with additional traffic violations,” Turner said in a social media post.
“My parents raised me to do the right things in life, and unfortunately, this time, I didn’t. I made the wrong decision.

“I’m very disappointed and embarrassed, and I want to personally apologize to my parents, my teammates, my coaches, the fans, and the University of Wisconsin. I take this matter very seriously, and I vow to learn from this and be a better man going forward.”

What Does This Mean for Wisconsin Football?

The Wisconsin football team has officially suspended Jordan Turner indefinitely, and will receive a more formal suspension length following a completion of a formal investigation.

He’s not allowed to participate in any team or football-related activities; however, he can still utilize the weight room, sports medicine facility, and academic services.

While disappointing, Turner’s run-in with the law shouldn’t leave a lasting impact on the field. Wisconsin football has great depth at inside linebackers, namely Maema Njongmeta, who will be one of the top playmakers on defense, and Jake Chaney as the next man up.

When all is said and done, Turner will likely regain his starting spot at inside linebacker but will probably miss some time once the season begins.
