The Wisconsin football program is poking around in the transfer portal for a quarterback. Tanner Mordecai will play his final game in the Badgers upcoming bowl game, and with a lot of youth at the position, bringing in an experienced signal-caller could be beneficial.

UW could be an attractive landing spot for transfer portal QBs. Playing time will be up for the taking between Braedyn Locke, Nick Evers, Cole LaCrue, and incoming true freshman Mabrey Mettauer

Considering the circumstances, it’s no surprise Wisconsin was named a potential landing spot for a standout Big 12 transfer quarterback.

According to The Big Ten Huddle, Wisconsin is an early school to watch for Kansas State transfer Will Howard.

Howard, who led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship last season, finished the 2023 season with 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns, and ten interceptions while completing 61.3% of his pass attempts.

In four seasons at Kansas State, Howard notched 5,786 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns (the most career touchdown passes in Kansas State history), and 25 interceptions. On top of that, the 6-foot-5, 242-pound signal-caller logged 934 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns.

Howard makes a ton of sense for Wisconsin from a scheme standpoint. Like Tanner Mordecai, Howard can deliver through the air while using his legs if he gets into trouble. With the air raid offense, having a quarterback who can extend plays with his legs is crucial, and the Kansas State transfer fits that mold to a tee.

Given his pedigree, Howard will be a hot commodity in the transfer portal. The former Kansas State star will likely hear from some of the nation’s top schools, so Wisconsin might have somewhat of an outside chance to land his services. That said, it’s good to know that the Wisconsin football program is in the rumor mill for a transfer quarterback.

The quarterback position will be one to watch this offseason as the Badgers prepare to be without Tanner Mordecai in 2024.
