Wisconsin football offensive lineman Joe Tippman was selected the the 45th overall pick by the New York Jets in the 2023 NFL Draft

The first Wisconsin football alumnus chosen in the 2023 NFL Draft was, to no one’s surprise, an offensive lineman. Joe Tippman was selected with the 43rd pick overall by the New York Jets. Along with former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Tippman becomes one of the newest members of the Gang Green.

Tippman was the starting center for the Badgers each of the past two seasons. His performance earned him All-Big Ten honorable mention honors in 2021 and 2022. The Fort Wayne, IN native allowed just one sack and five pressures in 338 pass attempts in 2022. The former four-star recruit started every game in 2022 before opting out of the Guaranteed Rate Bowl to prepare for the NFL Draft.

The Wisconsin football alum will play somewhere on the interior of the Jets offensive line. Whether he plays at guard or center seems yet to be determined. Analysts disagree whether the three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection projects to the next level at center or not.
