Wisconsin football senior defensive lineman Rodas Johnson has officially bid farewell to the Badgers, entering the transfer portal after completing five seasons with the team.

Johnson officially said his goodbye on social media and will possess one year of eligibility to contribute at his next destination.

“I want to thank all of my coaches I’ve had while I was here,” Johnson said. “I’d especially like to thank Coach Chryst, Coach Rudolph, and Coach Inoke for recruiting me and allowing me to play the game at the next level. To my teammates, you’re my brothers for life. I’ll cherish all the memories that we’ve made on and off the field.”

Throughout his tenure on the Wisconsin football team, Rodas Johnson emerged as a key player on the Badgers defensive line, securing ten starts in the 2022 season and an additional eight in 2023.

In his 34-game journey with Wisconsin, Johnson notched 50 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Despite his contributions, the past season saw more limited output amid a schematic change, tallying 18 tackles and 0.5 sacks amidst a challenging season for the defensive line.

Joining the Badgers as part of the 2019 recruiting class, Johnson ranked as the nation’s 423rd player and the 32nd defensive tackle prospect. His recruitment drew interest from top-tier programs like Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, and others.

With Johnson’s departure, the Wisconsin Badgers are seeking reinforcements for the defensive line through the transfer portal, on top of the three incoming recruits they signed in the 2024 recruiting class.

As the offseason progresses, the Wisconsin football defensive line will be under scrutiny as they strive to compensate for the loss of Johnson and other departing seniors.
