The Wisconsin football program got back on track on the recruiting trail after a commitment from four-star OT Emerson Mandell.

UW is still active in the 2024 cycle, with multiple top targets set to announce their commitments in the coming days.

However, one prospect sticks out above the rest.

Dilin Jones Remains a Question Mark for Wisconsin Football

Dilin Jones, a four-star RB out of Maryland, is the most intriguing prospect left on UW’s board.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Jones is the No. 177 player in the nation, the No. 13 RB, and the No. 4 player in Maryland.

The standout from Good Counsel has racked up 31 total offers. Notable schools to offer the four-star prospect include Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, Maryland, South Carolina, and many more.

Jones has kept his recruitment rather quiet from the jump. There’s minimal indication of where the Maryland native is currently leaning. However, Wisconsin and Maryland seem to be the top options at this point.

It’s worth noting that Jones has only taken one official visit, which was his visit to Madison on June 16th. He was also slated to stop at Florida State on an official, but it seemingly never materialized. Maryland has also hosted Jones on multiple unofficial visits.

Now here’s where it gets interesting: The Terrapins just secured a commitment from four-star RB Dejuan Williams. On top of that, Wisconsin is the odds-on favorite to land four-star RB Darrion Dupree on July 7th and currently holds a commitment from three-star RB Gideon Ituka.

Jones is aware of Wisconsin taking 2-3 running backs in the cycle, but the question is, would Jones want to compete for playing time with two other tailbacks if Dupree does commit?

Final Thoughts

As I said before, Jones has kept his recruitment rather quiet, so there’s very little information to go off of at this point. However, I like Wisconsin’s chances here. It bodes well for the program that his only official visit was to Madison, and he reportedly loved his stay.

Maryland is going to be the school to watch going forward. Since they landed a tailback, it could make Jones look closer at other options.

Jones remains the most intriguing prospect to watch as the 2024 recruiting cycle comes to a close. The Wisconsin football program currently holds 16 commits in the 2024 cycle.
