It was their first in-state cycle, but Luke Fickell will be the first to tell you that in-state recruiting didn’t go according to plan for the Wisconsin football program

The Badgers only kept home two of Wisconsin’s top 10 prospects in the 2024 cycle, four-star offensive tackle Derek Jensen and three-star inside linebacker Landon Gauthier

But UW’s coaching staff is set on changing that narrative in 2025.

According to a report from Jon McNamara of Rivals, the Badgers will have four-star in-state offensive lineman Owen Strebig in attendance when they take on Buffalo during the season opener.

Wisconsin Football is Getting a Top 100 National Recruit on Campus

Repairing your in-state recruiting image is essential if you’re on the Wisconsin football coaching staff. But it’s even more important when the player you’re wooing is one of the best offensive line prospects in the entire country.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Owen Strebig is the No. 82 player in the 2025 cycle, the No. 10 OT in the country, and the No. 1 player in Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-8, 295-pound offensive tackle already holds 20 scholarship offers, most notably from Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, USC, and several other high-level programs.

Luke Fickell and his staff offered Strebig back in March and will have an uphill climb to keep him home. However, he’s at or near the top of their offensive line recruiting board, and will make every effort to get him on campus and ensure he winds up in a Wisconsin football uniform.

The early word is that Notre Dame could be tough to beat here, but it is one worth keeping an eye on.
