Alabama Attempting to Flip Prized 2024 Wisconsin Football Commit

Wisconsin football coaches must fend off Alabama, who recently offered their prized 2024 RB commit.

Welp, we all knew this was a strong possibility when the Wisconsin football program picked up their third running back commit in the 2024 recruiting class. Still, Badgers prized tailback recruit Darrion Dupree picked up a new offer, which is a doozy.

The four-star recruit from Mount Carmel High School who committed to UW back in June over scholarship offers from Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and several others — has now picked up an offer from Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

According to the industry-generated composite rankings, Dupree is the No. 366 recruit in the 2024 class, the No. 32 running back, and the No. 8 prospect to hail from Illinois.

What Does This Mean for Wisconsin Football Recruiting?

Knowing that Darrion Dupree was willing to keep his options open as it was, it’s fair to ask what does this mean for the Wisconsin football program?

The short answer is it’s time to knuckle up and do everything in their power to keep Dupree’s commitment to the Badgers solid. I see the 5-foot-10, 190-pound tailback as a potential foundational piece for Wisconsin football to build their new brand of offense around — as early as next season when Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi depart.

Dupree is a one-cut runner with effortless straight-line speed once he gets in the open field. He also has impressive contact balance, consistently plays bigger than his size, and is patient as a runner — you don’t always see running back recruits have that in high school because they can “out-athlete” everyone.

More than anything, though, is that the Illinois native has the potential to be a true, three-down all-purpose running back because he’s a natural pass catcher from out of the backfield.

This would be a massive loss if Alabama can weasel their way in and try to flip the four-star tailback from Chicago — but rest assured — this coaching staff won’t go down without a fight.
