The Wisconsin football program saw a big need for running back in the 2024 recruiting class. With Braelon Allen likely on the way out and Chez Mellusi‘s future now up in the air, the Badgers secured some crucial insurance at the position, landing three running back commits in the cycle.

One of Wisconsin’s 2024 tailback commits has been putting up video game numbers all season long, and he ended his senior year’s regular season with a bang.

Wisconsin Football Commit Gideon Ituka Breaks School Record During Standout Senior Campaign

Gideon Ituka was Wisconsin’s second tailback commit in the cycle. The Gaithersburg, Maryland native is relatively unheralded compared to UW’s other tailbacks like Darrion Dupree and Dilin Jones. Still, he’s put himself on the map with a string of highlight plays and a remarkable regular-season performance.

Ituka turned heads when he announced his stats through five weeks of the regular season just a few weeks ago. The UW commit had tallied 961 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 102 carries. With those marks, Ituka was averaging 9.5 yards per carry and finding the endzone every ten times he touched the ball.

The Wisconsin commit didn’t slow down after that, as he continued to put together standout performance after standout performance. According to a social media post, Ituka logged nearly 400 rushing yards and five touchdowns en route to a regular season finale win, bringing his season rushing total to over 2,000 yards.

The 5-foot-10, 230-pound tailback is now the record holder for the most rushing yards in a season in Gaithersburg High School history.

Following a remarkable 8-1 regular season, Ituka and the Gaithersburg Trojans will set their sights to the playoffs. The Wisconsin commit has been a huge reason for the Trojans’ success, and his playoff run will be one to keep an eye on.

I don’t want to speak too soon, but it looks like the Wisconsin football program got themselves a good one in the 2024 recruiting class.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Gideon Ituka is the No. 1017 player in the nation, the No. 74 RB, and the No. 28 player in Maryland.
