Wisconsin Basketball is finally receiving some national attention in 2023. In Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology post Tuesday, the Badgers were projected as a no. 4 seed and ranked 15th overall.

According to the report published weekly by the well known ESPN college basketball analyst, Wisconsin basketball would land in the East region with the likes of UConn, Oklahoma, and Clemson.

Not an ideal draw with the former national champion Huskies and an extremely underrated Sooner squad. But, plenty will change over the next few months before Selection Sunday.

Other Notable Teams Recognized

Purdue was the top seed and the only Big 10 team on the one seed line. Meanwhile, in-state rival Marquette finds themselves as a two.

Illinois is currently projected as a no. 3 seed, just five spots ahead of UW. Nebraska and Michigan State both currently find themselves in the “Last Four In” category.

Wisconsin basketball would currently be one of eight Big 10 teams selected for the tournament. This matches the Big 12 and SEC for most total tournament selections.

Wondering when Wisconsin last received a no. 4 seed? For three consecutive seasons (2010, 2011, 2012) Wisconsin found themselves on the four line. However, only one of those seasons they ended up reaching the sweet sixteen.

What’s Next For Wisconsin Basketball

Wisconsin (8-3) remains idle until Friday when they welcome Chicago State to the Kohl Center for their final non-conference tune up. The Cougars have won three straight with a surprising recent upset of Northwestern under their belt.

UW will then have another 10 days off before they kick off the full slate of Big 10 play with Iowa on Jan. 2.

Obviously it’s early, But Wisconsin is a deep team with veteran leaders that has garnered the attention of national media members.
