Madison, Wis. —  Greg Gard and the Wisconsin men’s basketball program have reached out to an accomplished mid-major transfer wing with in-state ties.

On Thursday, Evan Flood of 247Sports reported that Wisconsin was one of several teams that expressed interest in Southern Illinois wing Marcus Domask out of Waupun (Wis.), who recently entered the transfer portal.

Along with UW, Domask has heard from Virginia, Iowa State, California, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Cincinnati, Washington, Iowa, Washington State, and several other schools.

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound small forward was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference member this past season, averaging 16.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 44.7% shooting from the field in just over 35 minutes per game for the Salukies. It’s also worth noting that Domask reached double figures in scoring in 28 of SIUs 33 games in 2022-23.

Domask started 105 of the 106 games he appeared in at Southern Illinois and will have one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer should he choose to return to college for a fifth season. He’s currently weighing the possibility of turning pro instead.

Why Marcus Domask Sense for Wisconsin Men’s Basketball

Wisconsin men’s basketball needs a lanky small forward that can shoot and add some scoring punch, and who better to fill that need than the 2019 Mr. Basketball Award winner?

Marcus Domask turned in another impressive season with Southern Illinois, finishing with a 104.4 ORTG and a 3.3 PRPG, per Barttorvik, which would have been the top ranking on the Badgers this past season.

The belief here is that if Domask decides to return for a fifth and final season, Wisconsin men’s basketball is at or near the top of his wish list. I’ve also heard that Greg Gard and his coaching staff intend to be aggressive in trying to bring him home.

Adding Domask would be an absolute home-run, picture-perfect addition for the Badgers if they can find a way to secure his services. It’s also worth mentioning that he was at Wisconsin’s NIT game against Liberty–so do with that information as you will.

Marcus Domask is the perfect fit stylistically for Wisconsin men’s basketball and would instantly thrust the Badgers into Big Ten title contention in 2023-24.
