We now live in an age where someone returning to school is no longer a given. That said, the Wisconsin Badgers football program got favorable news regarding their offensive line next season.

Redshirt freshman Jake Renfro, who appeared in just one game this past season against LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl, announced on Instagram that he would return to the Badgers for his final season of eligibility.

“Been through a lot the past two years,” Renfro wrote. “I have so much to be thankful and grateful for. Just need to say one thing…

“I’m back.”

Wisconsin Football OL Jake Renfro Returning to the Badgers

Last offseason, Jake Renfro appeared to be one of the Wisconsin football teams’ most significant transfer portal additions on paper.

The former All-AAC first-team center seemed like a plug-and-play starting offensive lineman for an offense in transition. However, injuries derailed that plan, forcing Tanor Borolini to shift inside and fill that void.

Renfro finally got his chance in the bowl game against LSU, starting at center and playing 75 snaps for the Wisconsin Badgers. According to Pro Football Focus, the 6-foot-4 Illinois native finished with a 58.1 grade and allowed three pressures. On a brighter note, Renfro’s snapping ability positively impacted the timing of the Badgers offense.

Entering 2024, Renfro seems like the best bet to step into the Wisconsin football team’s starting center role.
