It wasn’t the season the Wisconsin football team or its star running back, Braelon Allen, were hoping for. However, the Wisconsin Badgers junior tailback still managed to capture the attention of national media pundits.

In 11 games, Allen carried the ball 181 times for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching a career-high 28 passes for 132 yards, totaling 1,116 yards from scrimmage. That earned the Fond du Lac native his third consecutive second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Those numbers landed Allen, who recently declared for the NFL Draft, on ESPN’s Top 100 Players of the 2023 Season list.

Braelon Allen was the only Wisconsin Badgers football player to earn a spot on ESPN’s Top 100 list, slotting in at No. 96.

It’s hard to gain enough national attention to garner multiple players on the top 100 when you only win seven games. Still, I think there’s a legitimate argument to be made that Hunter Wohler or Ricardo Hallman, who led the country in interceptions, could have also earned a spot.

That said, Allen’s presence on the list speaks volumes about his impact. Allen finished his career as the 9th leading rusher in the history of the Wisconsin football program, totaling 3,494 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Although he didn’t post the gaudy numbers in Phil Longo’s air raid offense that some people had hoped, he made noticeable strides as a pass-catcher and pass-blocker under running backs coach Devon Spalding.

He’ll now embark on his journey into the NFL Draft, where the young talent aspires to continue the legacy of producing Wisconsin Badgers running backs in the NFL.
