Wisconsin Badgers head football coach Luke Fickell and his staff held its first spring practice of the offseason on Friday at the McClain Center. The practice was reportedly fast-paced and very chippy.

On-field action aside, this marks the beginning of an important window for the Badgers’ recruitment department as they host potential targets on campus to bolster their 2025 recruiting class, which currently boasts nine verbal commitments and looks to expand further in the coming months.

“I hope that they come in here and they get a good sense of what the culture and environment is really like,” Fickell told reporters. “If you don’t love to compete, if you don’t love to put it out on the line .. if that’s not what you love, then this probably isn’t going to be the right place for you. And so, it’s great to have guys here.”

Wisconsin Football Hosted Key Recruiting Targets on Visits

Coach Fickell and his staff were able to get a large group of Wisconsin football recruiting targets on campus for the first spring practice. Among the headlines of that group was Cameron Miller, ranked as a four-star recruit by On3 and 247Sports composite rankings. He met with Badgers wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton for the first time.

Hailing from New Jersey, Miller is earmarked by Wisconsin football for a slot receiver role and has scheduled a spring visit to Kentucky for March 30. The Badgers picked up a crystal ball prediction after his visit.

“We don’t get as many opportunities because we practice in the morning, and these kids actually have to go to school,” Fickell said. “So Saturdays are the time when we usually get more guys here.

“They can see us in the action, they can see what our program’s really like, not just what we talked about or what we’ve done on a Zoom call. I want them to see and feel the real us, to see if this is the right place for them.”

Meanwhile, another standout recruit Badgernotes confirmed was on campus was consensus four-star tackle Jack Lange, who got his first look at offensive line coach A.J. Blazek and the other Badgers linemen.

Lange, who hails from Eureka, Missouri, has Wisconsin football among his top six programs, as announced in mid-February. The Badgers face stiff competition from Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, and Notre Dame in securing Lange’s commitment. The Badgers hold just one 2025 commitment from Wautoma’s Michael Roeske on the offensive line.

Another notable recruit the Badgers staff had on campus was highly-touted 2026 running back Shahn Alston, rated as a four-star recruit by On3, who attended the Wisconsin football spring practice session.

Hailing from Thomas W. Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, Alston picked up an offer from Badgers position coach Devon Spalding shortly after that, joining a list of schools that already included USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and several others.
