2025 three-star safety Marcus Wimberly, hailing from Bauxite, Arkansas, has been on the Wisconsin football program’s recruiting radar for several months.

Despite a coaching change that led to bringing Alex Grinch from USC aboard, Wimberly continued to see strong interest from the Badgers, which, after a conversation, eventually materialized in a scholarship offer.

“It’s just such a blessing,” Wimberly said of the offer. “Another opportunity for school to be paid for and be set up for future success. It means so much to my family and I.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety has a growing list of scholarship offers from suitors such as Arkansas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Michigan, Oregon, Utah, Tennessee, and several others.

“I have a great relationship with coach Grinch,” Wimberly shared with Badgernotes. “I feel like we connect really well.”

According to the composite recruiting rankings, Wimberly is the No. 44 safety in the country and the No. 5 player in Arkansas.

Marcus Wimberly Planning Official Visit With Wisconsin Football

Despite holding a crystal ball prediction to land with the Oklahoma Sooners, Wimberly’s interest in the Wisconsin football program is genuine and he plans to take an official visit to Madison sometime in June.

“I love their physicality and their brand of football,” Wimberly said. “They develop really good players and have a great culture too.”

It also doesn’t hurt that Hunter Wohler had a breakout season and showed Wimberly what was possible in the Badgers defensive system.

As a junior at Bauxite High School, the Arkansas native played both ways, rushing for 533 yards and 15 touchdowns while also hauling in 28 passes for 302 yards and two scores, per MaxPreps.

Impressed by Wimberly’s physical playing style and athletic versatility, Coach Grinch believes he would fit well within the Wisconsin football team’s 3-3-5 defensive scheme.

What’s Next for Marcus Wimberly in His Recruitment?

As Wimberly navigates his recruitment this summer, he has visits lined up to various schools, including an Arkansas official and unofficial visits to Memphis, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

“I’m hearing a ton from Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Memphis, Ole Miss, Michigan, and, of course, Wisconsin,” Wimberly conveyed.

Wimberly aims to make his commitment in July, prioritizing a school where he feels a strong player-coach connection and overall fit.

As it stands, Wisconsin football holds commits from defensive backs Jaimier Scott, Remington Moss, and Cody Haddad in the 2025 recruiting class.
