Wisconsin football; Badgers safety Hunter Wohler
Wisconsin safety Hunter Wohler (24) sacks Georgia Southern quarterback Davis Brin (5) during the second quarter of their game September 16, 2023 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. Wisconsin beat Georgia Southern 35-14.

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers football program overcame another slow start to pull out a 35-14 victory, covering the 19-point spread against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

Following the game, Coach Fickell dropped his week four players of the game on social media. Let’s see who took home the in-house honors.

Wisconsin Football Offensive Player of the Week: Braelon Allen

We later discovered Agent 0 was nursing an injury heading into the Georgia Southern game. However, Braelon Allen still took home the Wisconsin football offensive player of the week honors despite getting fewer carries than Chez Mellusi and not getting his first carry until the second quarter.

Overall, Allen finished with 12 carries for 94 yards (7.8 YPC) and two touchdowns. He also added two catches for five yards.

Wisconsin Football Defensive Player of the Week: Hunter Wohler

Wisconsin football has a star player on defense, and his name is Hunter Wohler — it’s time we all start to acknowledge that.

Wohler has been flying around the Badgers defense all season long and lining up all over the formation, which is precisely what he was asked to do against Georgia Southern.

The junior safety finished with 10 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack. In short, Wohler was everywhere — and is a force to be reckoned with. He was a no-brainer for Defensive Player of the Game.

Wisconsin Badgers Special Teams Players of the Game

Lastly, Luke Fickell and his coaching staff selected freshman punter Atticus Bertrams and safety Preston Zachman as co-special teams players of the game.

The Aussie punted six times for 254 yards (42.3 AVG), with one landing inside the 20. As for Zachman, PFF hasn’t posted any Wisconsin football special teams stats that allow me to quantify his impact on the unit, but he did have five tackles and a pass deflection on defense.
