It’s been a busy couple of days for the Wisconsin football program, ladies and gents, but fear not because BadgerNotes can help get you back up to speed with a roundup of some important news you may have missed.

Side note: Luke Fickell and Phil Longo have been madmen on the recruiting trail as of late. So we, as fans, should consider starting a go fund me to help fuel the copious amounts of caffeine they must be consuming.

Wisconsin Football Lands Top WR Prospect in School History

Somebody pinch me; this shit cannot be real life. On top of the Wisconsin football team seemingly becoming a destination for QBs overnight, Luke Fickell and Phil Longo just pulled the highest-rated wide receiver prospect in program history as icing on the cake.

This past week, USC Trojan WR CJ Williams announced his intentions to transfer to the University of Wisconsin on social media.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Williams was the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, the No. 10 WR in the country, and the No. 6 player in California.

Williams, a former four-star prospect at Mater Dei High School in California, played in the All-American Bowl his senior season.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound WR is a high-upside possession receiver that appeared in 10 games as a true freshman this past season, finishing with four catches for 34 yards.

I expect him to quickly rise on the depth chart and become a top-three option for Phil Longo’s passing attack on day one.

Williams’ addition to the Wisconsin football program is a MASSIVE pull by the new coaching staff, and he’ll join the Badgers with three years of eligibility (*wipes tear).

C.J Goetz Returning to Wisconsin Football in 2023

The good news for the Wisconsin football program just keeps rolling in.

Raul Vasquez of BadgerBlitz.com reported that Badgers outside linebacker C.J. Goetz is utilizing his Covid year and returning to UW for a sixth season.

In 2022, Goetz finished with 62 tackles, 16 pressures, two sacks, and two pass deflections.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound OLB had the second-highest PFF grade on the defense among returning players (74.5) and is the most experienced pass-rusher on the team, having logged 883 career snaps.

It’s also worth noting that Goetz was easily playing the best ball of his career in the second half of last season.

Goetz is one of the Badgers’ top run defenders and tacklers in the front seven and will help provide stability to an otherwise unproven room headlined by Darryl Peterson, Kaden Johnson, and T.J. Bollers.

You Can Never Have Enough WRs, Turns Out

On Friday night, Wisconsin football added…you guessed it, ANOTHER wide receiver from the transfer portal.

Former Oklahoma State Cowboys wide receiver Bryson Green announced his intentions to transfer to UW on social media following an official visit to Madison.

Green, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound WR, appeared in 11 games with the Cowboys in 2022, registering 36 catches for 584 yards and five touchdowns.

“There will be much more involvement with the receivers that are here,” Phil Longo told UW reporters.

He’s another player that will likely see the field in 2022. With so many talented options at WR, the competition for snaps in spring and fall camp will be worth monitoring closely. These are truly unprecedented times.

Green joins the Wisconsin football program with two years of eligibility remaining. He’s also the fourth WR transfer Luke Fickell, and Phil Longo have added this offseason, joining CJ Williams (USC), Will Pauling (Cincinnati), and Quincy Burroughs (Cincinnati).
