Wisconsin Badgers football transfer portal commit: linebacker Jahsiah Galvan from Northern Iowa
Iowa State Cyclones' quarterback JJ Kohl (10) runs with the ball around Northern Iowa Panthers linebacker Jahsiah Galvan (11) during the third quarter in the season-opening game at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, in Ames, Iowa.

The Wisconsin football recruiting department has been making a concerted effort to re-tool both of the Badgers linebacker rooms this offseason, and they found another intriguing fit via the portal.

Following an official visit to Madison over the weekend, Northern Iowa linebacker Jahsiah Galvan announced on social media that he’s committing to the Wisconsin Badgers and head coach Luke Fickell over reported interests from Kansas, Cincinnati, and Kansas State.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound inside backer from West Liberty, Iowa, began his collegiate career as a safety but has since transitioned into a hybrid role because of his versatility, which now has him slotted at inside linebacker.

Galvan will join the Wisconsin football team with three years of eligibility.

The Wisconsin football program is doubling down on its preference for having long, athletic linebackers who can play in space, now extending that proclivity into its group of inside backers.

Jahsiah Galvan is coming off a standout redshirt freshman season in which he played 11 games and led Northern Iowa’s defense in tackles (77) while also adding nine pressures, 5.5 TFLs, a forced fumble, and an interception en route to Missouri Valley All-Newcomer Team honors.

Pro Football Focus gave Galvan an 81.2 grade (good) last season but, perhaps more notably, finished with an 85.8 (high quality) in coverage. Although Brady Collins will need to pack on some additional weight, Galvan should provide the Wisconsin Badgers with a linebacker capable of dropping into coverage on passing downs.

Galvan is the first addition the Wisconsin football team has made at inside linebacker since Jordan Turner entered the transfer portal. The Badgers now have added competition to a room that includes Jake Chaney, Christian Alliegro, Bryan Sanborn, Tyler Jansey, Aidan Vaughan, and incoming freshman Landon Gauthier.
