Wisconsin football redshirt junior linebacker Ross Gengler announced that he will enter the transfer portal after four seasons with the Badgers.

The two-time Academic All-Big Ten linebacker joined the University of Wisconsin as a walk-on but will now finish his playing career elsewhere.

“I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Wisconsin Badger Football program for the past four years. Thank you to Coach Chryst, Coach Leonhard, Coach Haering, Coach Fickell, and Coach Mitchell for giving me an opportunity to play for a team that I have not only watched growing up but dreamed of playing for in Camp Randall.

“To my teammates, thank you for the memories that I will carry with me for a lifetime. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal in pursuit of my next opportunity.”

The linebacker from Wisconsin will have two years of eligibility remaining.

During the course of his Wisconsin football career, Ross Gengler served as a depth piece at linebacker, appearing in nine career games on special teams for the Badgers — only one of which came in 2023.

Gengler, a Delavan, Wisconsin native, initially joined the Badgers as a member of the 2020 recruiting class under former head coach Paul Chryst over a handful of Divison 2 and three offers.

The 6-foot-2 linebacker is now the third known Wisconsin football player to enter the transfer portal this offseason — joining Badgers center Dylan Barrett and quarterback Myles Burkett.
