Just days after the Wisconsin football program offered Syracuse transfer linebacker Leon Lowery Jr. — the Badgers coaching staff managed to get him on campus for a recruiting visit.

Per a post on Instagram, Lowery Jr. was in Madison this past weekend and was on site when the Wisconsin basketball team took down No. 3 Marquette at the Kohl Center.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound pass rusher is the No. 7 EDGE available in the transfer portal right now, according to On3’s offseason rankings. Lowery Jr. is expected to take additional recruiting visits to Oregon State and Baylor in the coming weeks before making a decision.

Wisconsin Football Hosts Syracuse OLB Leon Lowery Jr. on Visit

Leon Lowery Jr. has an intriguing athletic build — featuring a more slender frame with long arms that could project well as a pass-rusher in the Wisconsin football team’s new defensive scheme.

The New Jersey native has 30 career games’ worth of experience under his belt and started all 12 games for Syracuse this past season. Lowery Jr. accounted for 46 tackles, 16 pressures, 7.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, and a pass deflection for the Orange.

According to Pro Football Focus, Lowery Jr. played 523 total snaps split between outside linebacker and defensive line. That versatility would undoubtedly be an asset for a Wisconsin Badgers defense looking to build depth and add better athletes capable of playing in space.

We’ll have to wait until his scheduled visits are finished to see how it all shakes out. Still, this early interest between Lowery Jr. and Hillsdale College pass-rusher Riley Tolsma shows how serious the Wisconsin football recruiting staff is about improving its outside linebacker room heading into 2024.
