Madison, Wis. – Luke Fickell and his coaching staff, who have been on a recruiting heater since arriving in Madison — added another talented player to the Wisconsin football program on Sunday afternoon.

After taking another visit to Madison this past weekend (his third), UW received a verbal commitment from four-star offensive tackle Derek Jensen out of Hartland, Wisconsin.

According to the Rivals recruiting database, he’s the No. 240 player in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 19 OT in the country, and the No. 4 player in Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-7, 315-pound OT was an important recruit for the Badgers to keep home, also holding offers from Central Michigan, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, Syracuse, and Virginia.

Scouting Report

Derek Jensen, a standout at Arrowhead High School, possesses excellent size and fits the mold of a spread offensive tackle.

Here are Brandon Cooper’s (BadgerNotes offensive line recruiting expert) thoughts on the four-star offensive tackle:

He’s very physical and will significantly benefit from a college strength and conditioning program. Jensen has solid hands, although his first punch could be quicker. The Wisconsin native excels at finishing blocks if he can get his hands inside.

The 6-foot-7 tackle rarely takes a false step but needs to improve his technique and pad level; Jensen sometimes comes out of his stance very high. Sometimes he relies on being bigger and stronger than everyone to compensate for his lack of quickness.

I think Jensen’s a multi-year project at tackle with a high upside if he hits. He was someone Jack Bicknell needed to keep in-state.

The Impact of Derek Jensen’s Addition to the Wisconsin Football 2024 Recruiting Class

Jensen becomes the fourth commit for Wisconsin football in the 2024 recruiting class, joining Mabrey Mettauer, Grant Stec, and fellow in-state prospect Robert Booker.

With his addition, UW now has the No. 27 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports.
