Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin football team received a major piece of news Friday afternoon when Athletic Director Chris McIntosh announced a key suspension.

Jordan Turner, a starting linebacker and the second-leading tackler for the Badgers last season, has been suspended indefinitely. The Badgers Athletic Director stated that the school would announce his suspension length following the completion of an investigation. McIntosh also did not provide any additional details regarding the circumstances of Turner’s suspension. However, Turner has already taken to Twitter to issue an apology which sheds some light on what occurred.

After a recent traffic stop incident, Turner was issued an OWI along with other traffic violations. A violation like the one Turner received carries with it a potential revocation of his license and possible enrollment into a sobriety program. Turner admitted to his mistakes and vowed to learn from his first offense. Turner only received a warning and will not face any major off-field punishment outside of the school for his violation.

The linebacker violated the University of Wisconsin Department of Athletics’ student-athlete discipline policy with his traffic stop. The university has not released any other information regarding the situation or Turner.

This past season, Turner recorded 68 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks as the Badgers finished the year with a 7-6 record. Turner was scheduled to start this upcoming season and should be a massive weapon for the Wisconsin defense. With the Wisconsin football team unsure of when Turner will be able to return, the staff will have to figure out who the replacement will be.

Currently, Turner has been placed on leave, which consists of limited participation within the program. Turner can still access the sports medicine facility, the weight room, and the academic services given out to student-athletes. However, the linebacker cannot participate in team or football-related activities until the investigation is fully complete.
