Albeit under a new coaching regime, Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers football team have been in contact with a former high-pedigree linebacker who recently entered the portal.

The Badgers staff has reached out to USC Trojans linebacker Tackett Curtis and has scheduled a Zoom meeting with the team later this week, his father confirmed to BadgerNotes.com

Coming out of high school, Curtis had the Wisconsin Badgers among his list of recruiting finalists, alongside USC and Ohio State. He was extremely close to former outside linebackers coach Bobby April and even took an official visit to Madison.

Per the 247sports Composite, Curtis was a four-star recruit and the No. 108 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 9 LB in the country, and the No. 6 player in Louisiana.

Wisconsin Football Targeting USC LB Tackett Curtis in Transfer Portal

Wisconsin football is working vigorously to revamp its linebacker room this offseason, and USC transfer Tackett Curtis would undoubtedly be a home run addition.

As a true freshman, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound LB registered 40 tackles, 10 pressures, six hurries, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection in 355 total snaps for the Trojans defense.

Curtis’ departure from USC comes on the heels of Alex Grinch and Brian Odom being relieved of their duties, both of whom he was close with. He started eight games but lost his starting job after a loss to Utah.

The Wisconsin football defense is expected to make several additions to the inside linebacker spot this offseason, and Curtis is an intriguing, high-upside talent that would fit in perfectly with the brand of ball the Badgers want to play.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation. But Jordan Turner’s departure makes it imperative that they add players with some experience.
