Wisconsin Football Has Surprise Name on Top Sprint Speed List
Turns out the Badgers QB1 can scoot.
The Wisconsin Badgers football players are in the midst of their offseason strength and conditioning programs, led by the legend himself, Brady Collins.
On top of dropping their weekly “Dudes of the Week,” Collins also takes to social media to unveil the Wisconsin Badgers’ top sprint speeds recorded during off-season training sessions.
While these announcements typically garner attention for showcasing the speed and athleticism of expected skill position standouts, this week’s list came with a twist: not only were there far more players over 20MPH than this time a year ago, but there was a player on the list who isn’t perceived as a burner.
Wisconsin Football QB Tyler Van Dyke is…fast?
While most of the excitement surrounding the top sprint speeds list is understandably on the top six spots being held by Wisconsin football wideouts Quincy Burroughs, Trech Kekahuna, Tommy McIntosh, Will Pauling, Vinny Anthony, and CJ Williams, one name in particular caught my eye that didn’t feel like belonged.
Wisconsin Badgers transfer quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who spent the last three seasons at Miami, came in at a spring speed of 20.32 MPH.

Before anyone starts clamoring that Van Dyke might be a dual-threat quarterback, I’d ask that you pump the breaks. On film, the speed doesn’t necessarily translate in a way where you’d manufacture designed runs for Van Dyke. However, his ability to navigate the pocket, evade pressure, and extend plays with his legs is undoubtedly where this speed comes in.
Wisconsin football coaches brought in Van Dyke to help give the Badgers’ passing attack a shot in the arm, but at least for one day in the middle of February, it was his legs that stole the show.
