Wisconsin Football Extends Contract of Head Coach Luke Fickell
The Badgers athletic department extended Luke Fickell’s contract.
As a gesture of goodwill, Chris McIntosh and the Badgers athletic board extended the contract of Luke Fickell, the head coach of the University of Wisconsin football program, on Friday afternoon.
The Wisconsin Badgers follow a unique process for extending head coaching contracts for those unfamiliar. Unlike schools that renegotiate deals as the expiration dates approach, most Badgers coaches rarely see their contracts come close to expiration. The athletic department typically extends them annually to maintain full-length contracts.
Other Wisconsin head coaches to get their contracts extended by the athletic board include Kelly Sheffield (volleyball), Paula Wilkins (women’s soccer), and Neil Jones (men’s soccer).

Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell led the Badgers to a 7-6 record in his first season at the helm, including a New Year’s Day appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl against LSU.
Despite falling short of outside expectations, the board approved a $100,000 pay raise for Fickell, citing “satisfactory performance.” He will be paid $7.6 million from April 1 of next year through March 31 of 2025. Right now, Fickell’s contract runs through March 31, 2031.
It was also announced that the Wisconsin football program will be replacing all the video boards inside Camp Randall Stadium ahead of the Badgers 2024 season opener.
