Wisconsin Football secures former Michigan State DE

Wisconsin football added yet another defender through the transfer portal on Monday morning.

Former Michigan State defensive end Jeff Pietrowski Jr took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Wisconsin.

Pietrowski’s commitment marks the third defensive addition through the portal. The junior defensive end entered the transfer portal just three days ago. Now, he heads to Madison looking to bring depth and talent to Wisconsin’s defensive front.

Coming out of high school, Pietrowski was a three-star recruit. He came in as the 66th-ranked defensive end in the 2019 class and the 51st-ranked player in Ohio.

The junior edge rusher appeared in three games for the Michigan State Spartans in 2022. Due to an injury he suffered in October, Pietrowski missed the remainder of the season. However, his 2021 season gave a glimpse at what he could provide for a team.

Pietrowski notched 33 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in his sophomore season. His contributions to the pass rush were significant for Michigan State, and he now has the chance to contribute to UW’s pass rush.

Pietrowski shows promise as an edge rusher who can make immediate contributions. The 6-foot-1, 250-pound defensive end has a knack for bursting off the line and getting into the backfield. He has an excellent block-shedding ability and good strength for his size. Pietrowski looks to be a perfect option to compete for reps in spring and potentially earn a starting nod.

Pietrowski heads to a revamped Wisconsin defense under Luke Fickell and DC Mike Tressel, looking to make an immediate impact. Even if he doesn’t earn a starting spot, the junior has the skill set to be a serviceable defensive end who can earn plenty of playing time.

Luke Fickell has now added his third defender through the transfer portal, and he shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
