Wisconsin football secures commitment from former Bearcat Jake Renfro

Wisconsin football bolstered their offensive line on Sunday evening with another transfer portal addition.

Former Cincinnati center Jake Renfro took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Wisconsin.

Renfro is the second offensive lineman from Cincinnati to commit to Wisconsin, with Joe Huber committing just a few days ago.

Out of high school, Renfro was an intriguing prospect. He came in as the 40th-ranked center in the 2020 class. Additionally, Renfro was the 39th-ranked player in Illinois.

Renfro missed the 2022 season due to an injury. Before that, he was integral to the Bearcats’ offensive line.

The 6-foot-3, 308-pound center appeared in seven games, six of which were starts, as a freshman in 2020. He started in 13 games in 2021, landing as an All-AAC First Team center. Now heading to Madison with three years of eligibility, he could be a seamless fit at center.

Following the regular season, former Badgers center Joe Tippmann declared for the NFL draft. In the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Wisconsin shifted junior guard Tanner Bortolini to center. With Renfro now headed to Madison, he should fill that hole that Tippmann left and allow Bortolini to stay at his guard spot.

Wisconsin football has now secured two offensive linemen through the portal, a position that needed more depth heading into 2023. Renfro is the sixth transfer addition and one of the most proven players.

The Badgers revamped the team in multiple key positions. New offensive coordinator Phil Longo tweeted on Sunday that five offensive weapons will commit in the coming days. Renfro is an important addition, and Wisconsin is not done in the transfer portal.
