High school basketball teams all over the country are nearing the end of their respective seasons. With that comes playoffs, state tournaments, and awards for the top-performing players. Wisconsin basketball signees Daniel Freitag and Jack Robison are two of those top-performing players in the state of Minnesota.

Both players are seniors this year and a part of Wisconsin’s 2024 recruiting class and are considered to be some of the high-ranked recruits in the state, according to 7Sports.

Point guard Daniel Freitag (Breck School, Minneapolis) is a 4-star prospect and is the second-highest-ranked player in the state(112th in the country).

Small Foward Jack Robison (Lakeville North High School, Lakeville) is a 3-star prospect and ranked sixth in the state (181st in the country).

Both players made the cut into the top 10 for a major state award.

Two Wisconsin Basketball Signees Named Top 10 Candidates for Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award

Daniel Freitag has been enjoying a successful senior campaign. He is the leading scorer for Breck, leading the Mustangs to a 24-1 record, a perfect 9-0 conference record, and to No. 8 in the state rankings.

Similarly, Jack Robison is leading Lakeville North to another great year. Lakeville North has been a pipeline to the Wisconsin basketball program the past few years and Robison is the latest product to cross the border to join the Badgers. In 23 games this year, Robison is averaging 22.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Both Freitag and Robison have been named a top 10 candidate for the Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award. Neither Breck School nor Lakeville North have ever had a player win the award.

The Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award is given to the top senior in the state.

In its history, there has been only one player who has won it and went on to join the Wisconsin basketball program – Jordan Taylor. In 2008, Taylor scored 22.3 points per game and added 7.1 assists per game, leading Benilde-St. Margaret’s to the Minnesota state Class AAA title.

The ‘Final Five’ players will be announced on March 17. The winner of the 2024 Mr. Basketball Award will be named after the Minnesota State Tournament.
