A linchpin forward from the University of Wisconsin basketball program is taking his first steps toward a professional playing career.

Tyler Wahl, the Wisconsin Badgers’ fifth-year senior out of Lakeville, Minnesota, will have a chance to showcase his talents in front of pro scouts after receiving an invite to compete at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

This event, scheduled from April 17 to 20 at Churchland High School in Virginia, serves as a platform for college seniors to display their talents to NBA and international scouts alike.

Wahl’s invitation to the tournament underscores his impressive resume with the Badgers. Over his five years with the Wisconsin basketball program, he developed into an impactful player on both ends of the court under head coach Greg Gard.

The multi-year starter received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2023-24 after averaging 11.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game during the regular season.

Standing at 6 feet 9 inches, Wahl’s versatility as a point forward can make him a mismatch for opposing bigs. Wahl also has impressive footwork and a throwback low-post style of play that could appeal to the right system overseas.

During his tenure, Wahl appeared in a record-setting 162 games for the Badgers. His contributions extended beyond mere appearances, as he played a pivotal role in 106 victories and two Big Ten regular season titles, leaving an indelible mark on the Wisconsin basketball team’s history.

Wahl also became the sixth player in Badgers program history to accumulate over 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, and 200 assists.

As Wahl makes the leap to the pros, he carries with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record. His participation in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament could help jumpstart the next chapter of his basketball journey.
